JUNE 2014 CHUNGARRA
I loved painting this Mural "Chungarra" Yugambeh word for Pelican at Runaway Bay
The design was painted on the Ryder park Toilet Block on Ray Street Runaway Bay.
“Chungarra” is designed to appeal to Locals and visitors and honour the Traditional People of the Runaway Bay area from time immemorial, in the present, and into the future. The design pays homage to Chungarra – Pelican and gives reference to a creation story from Coolangatta Tweed area – This story speaks of the Pelicans Playground. This story and many other creation stories speak of how the birds got their colours. The elements and references present in this design “Chungarra” are listed below.
